Disclosed is a method for manufacturing ultrafine titanium carbonitride powder which does not require a grinding process in a relatively low temperature condition. According to the present invention, the method for manufacturing titanium carbonitride powder comprises: a mixing step of bringing titanium dioxide (TiO_2), calcium (Ca), and carbon (C) into contact with each other under an inert atmosphere; a synthesis step of heating a mixture so obtained under a nitrogen atmosphere at a temperature of 600-1500°C or lower to allow the mixture to react; and a washing step of washing the reaction mixture to remove calcium oxide.
