The purpose of the present invention is to provide a dispersant for water treatment, which, used in membrane separation treatment of treated water that contains a compound having phenolic hydroxy groups, does not readily give rise to a reduction in the water permeation rate caused by deposition of the compound onto the separation membrane surfaces. Provided are a dispersant for water treatment, for use in treated water that contains a compound having phenolic hydroxy groups, the dispersant including a polymer compound having carbonyl groups, and having a structure in which carbonyl groups and nitrogen atoms are bonded; and a water treatment method in which this dispersant for water treatment is added to treated water that contains a compound having phenolic hydroxy groups. |
