A computer implemented method of activating a payment card for use by a user is performed by a network node and comprises operating a processor associated with the network node to associate a payment rule with a payment card identity. An indication of an identity of the payment card is received 202 and associated with a first payment rule 204. The first payment rule may include a geographical location in which the card may be used, the currency or maximum value for which the card may be used or the type of terminal with which the card may be used. Registration information pertaining to the user is received 206 and if it meets a predefined criterion 208, the processor is operated to associate the payment card identity with a second payment rule different to the first payment rule 210. A network node comprising a processor configured to activate a payment card is also claimed. |
