Methylpolysiloxane-oxymethylene polymers containing the group Si-CH2-O-Si are prepared by reacting a bromine-substituted methylpolysiloxane of the general formula <FORM:0905622/IV(a)/1> wherein a is not more than 2 and n is more than 1 but not more than 3, with a methylpolysiloxane of the general formula <FORM:0905622/IV(a)/2> in the presence of at least one mol. of potassium hydroxide per gram-atom of bromine and at a temperature above 0 DEG C. The methylpolysiloxane is either a liquid or is dissolved in an inert solvent. Examples are given. The products are stated to be useful as modifying agents for organic plastics and as surface active agents.
