Disclosed are a mobile terminal which may start data sharing through an infrared ray signal, and a method for controlling the same. To this end, the mobile terminal comprises: a wireless communications unit for performing wireless communications; an infrared ray transceiver for transceiving an infrared ray signal; a user input unit for receiving a user input; and a control unit for controlling a first infrared ray signal to be outputted through the infrared ray transceiver when a first user input is received through the user input unit, and controlling sharing data to be transmitted to the external terminal through the wireless communications unit when a second infrared ray signal is received from an external terminal which receives the first infrared ray signal. |
