A network (100) comprising: a plurality of data paths (14) for media streams between end point devices 2',3 ; and a network manager (7) which receives from the endpoints information relating to a data path between the endpoints (e.g. IP addresses of endpoints and intermediates), and information relating to the media stream sent between the endpoints (e.g. current bitrates, packet loss rate, latency etc.). The manager processes the input information and sends to the endpoints an indication of bitrate to be used for communication of the media stream, and may also send an indication of at least one of forward error correction rate to use and predicted packet loss rate along the data path, the latter being used by an endpoint to determine the error correction rate. The endpoint may decline to use the indicated bitrate, and the manager may then send bitrate indications to other endpoints in the network. |
