The present invention provides a secondary battery capable of enduring external shock and interior swelling phenomenon which has: an electrode assembly comprising a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate, and a separator placed between the first and second electrode plates; a can having a major axis, a minor axis, and an opening formed at one end such that the electrode assembly is inserted and receiving the electrode assembly inside; and a cap plate sealing the opening of the can, wherein the can comprises a first side and a second side which have first thicknesses corresponding to the minor axis of the can and are disposed to face each other, a third side and a fourth side which have second thicknesses corresponding to the major axis of the can and are disposed to face each other and a bottom face with a third thickness, adjoining the first to fourth sides and disposed in the opposite side of the can opening, wherein the second thickness is greater than the first thickness. |
