Pharmaceutical compositions containing a cocktail of inhibitors of central stress nuclei are provided. The pharmaceutical compositions are useful for the prevention and treatment of a variety of conditions in mammals including humans, including anxiety and mood disorders such as depression.

A pharmaceutical composition to treat an anxiety disorder or a mood disorder comprising a cocktail of at least two inhibitors of central stress nuclei, wherein at least one inhibitor of the central stress nuclei is a compound according to formula IIIa, IIIb, or IIIc: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, or solvate thereof; and stereoisomers, isotopic variants and tautomers thereof.
