Disclosed are a display device and a method for manufacturing the same. The method includes: forming a gate line in a first region and a gate electrode in a second region by patterning a first conductive layer which includes metal formed on a transparent substrate which includes the first region and the second region; forming a first insulating layer and a black matrix layer on the gate line and the gate electrode; forming a black matrix pattern by irradiating an ultraviolet ray to a back side of the transparent substrate to expose and develop the block matrix layer; and forming a first insulating pattern on the gate line, and a gate insulating pattern on the gate electrode by etching the first insulating layer using the black matrix pattern as a mask.
