The appliance (1) has two sets of treating surfaces respectively carried by an upper jaw (2) and a lower jaw (3) that are arranged opposite to one another, where the sets of surfaces have main heating straightening zones permit to grip a lock of hair along a plane. The sets of surfaces have a removable complementary heating straightening zone (20) that allows gripping the lock of hair along another plane that is not parallel to the former plane. The main zones have plates (10, 11) extended in the plane parallel to a longitudinal axis of the jaws. The planes are perpendicular to one another.
