An alpha amylase variant, comprising a substitution at one or more positions corresponding to positions 128, 143, 141, 192, 20, 76, 123, 136, 142, 165, 219, 224, 265, 383, and 410 of the mature polypeptide of SEQ ID NO: 2, wherein the variant has alpha amylase activity, and wherein the variant alpha amylase has at least 90% sequence identity with the mature polypeptide of SEQ ID NO: 2.
