The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising an Epimedium koreanum NAKAI extract as an active ingredient for preventing and treating viral diseases. The Epimedium koreanum NAKAI extract of the present invention increases cellular survival in a cell infected with virus such as vesicular stomatitis virus, Newcastle disease virus, herpes virus, rhinovirus, and the like, and reduces the number of viruses in the cell. Therefore, the composition can be usefully used as a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating viral diseases with respect to vesicular stomatitis virus, Newcastle disease virus, herpes virus, and rhinovirus by inhibiting the proliferation of the virus in the cell.
