A wire electric discharge machine stops an electric discharge process while driving a process program and remembers the position of a process stop point. A wire electrode is retreated from a process stop position to an arbitrary position (a retreat position), in which a short circuit with a work piece is released, by an interruption operation to manually perform an axial movement. Also, the wire electrode is returned to the process stop position while the discharge process is performed at the retreat position, and the operation of the process program is started from the process stop position to restart the discharge process. The wire discharge machine comprises: a memory unit; an axial movement retreating unit; a returning unit; and a process restarting unit. |
