SEPARATION PROCESS AND APPARATUS

An apparatus and process is disclosed for mitigating coking in an FCC reactor plenum. The apparatus and process utilize a baffle to create a inner volume for the product vapors to prevent contact with a relatively cool plenum. The baffle also limits the amount of the time the product vapors spend in the plenum minimizing time for coke formation and limit product vapors from entering low fluidization zones.

1. An apparatus for separating catalyst from gas comprising:
a vessel containing cyclones for separating catalyst from gas, said cyclones including a gas conduit for removing separated gas from the cyclone; a plenum at the top of the vessel with a plenum outlet for discharging gas from the plenum, said gas conduits extending into said plenum; a baffle in said plenum that defines an inner volume within the plenum, said gas conduit extending to said inner volume; a purge gas inlet in said plenum outside of said inner volume.
