Provided in an embodiment of the present invention are a setting method and terminal of a terminal working mode, the method comprising: a terminal acquires a physiological characteristic parameter and movement acceleration speed of a user thereof; the terminal determines, according to the physiological characteristic parameter and movement acceleration speed of the user, a working mode corresponding to the physiological characteristic parameter and the movement acceleration speed; and the terminal sets the current working mode thereof according to the determined working mode corresponding to the physiological characteristic parameter and the movement acceleration speed. The determined working mode corresponds to the physiological characteristic parameter and thus can solve the problem in the prior art of a working mode error caused by the user of the terminal being asleep, thus improving the accuracy and flexibility of working mode setting, and further improving the accuracy of sleep detection.
