PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder which is relatively inexpensive and is capable of detecting double feeding of even folded paper or unfolded paper with relatively high accuracy.SOLUTION: A paper feeder includes: paper feeding means for feeding paper from a paper loading section on which either folded paper or unfolded paper is loaded; a mechanical double feeding detection means which includes thickness detection means for detecting information on thickness of paper fed by the paper feeding means and is configured to detect double feeding on the basis of the information detected by the thickness detection means; an ultrasonic double feeding detection means; and a paper form determination section 122 for determining a paper form of the paper loaded on the paper loading section. The paper form determination section 122 determines that the paper loaded on the paper loading section is folded paper when double feeding is detected by second detection means when a sheet of paper of paper loaded on the paper loading section is fed by the paper feeding means in test paper feeding. The paper form determination section 122 determines that the paper loaded on the paper loading section is unfolded paper when double feeding is not detected.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5 |
