The purpose of the present invention is to provide a rubber composition for tires, the rubber composition having exceptional elongation at break and abrasion resistance, and a pneumatic tire using the same. This rubber composition for tires includes a diene rubber containing styrene-butadiene rubber and/or butadiene rubber, and a transition metal and/or transition metal compound. The contained amount of transition metal and transition metal compound is 0.01-5 parts by mass as metal per 100 parts by mass of diene rubber.
