The method involves continuous winding on a chuck (10) of a carousel-type winding station (3). A strip is cut by a shear (4) situated before the station, where a last turn of a coil creates pivoting about an axis of the chuck and dropping onto an insertion table (6) located in continuation of a line and followed by an inspection table (8). The strip is advanced by certain length on the tables and cut by another shear (7) to obtain a sample. The sample is inspected on the inspection table to detect faults. An independent claim is also included for a continuously operating rolling installation for winding and on-line inspection of a continuously-rolled metal strip.
