[Problem] To provide: a vanadium electrolyte which has high storage capacity and high energy density and is not susceptible to increase in the electrolyte resistance and decrease in the ion conductivity; a method for producing this vanadium electrolyte; and a vanadium redox battery. [Solution] The above-described problem is solved by a vanadium electrolyte (2, 4), which is a defoamed electrolyte in a paste form and contains vanadium ions within the density range of from 3.5 mol/L to 6.5 mol/L (inclusive), sulfate ions and a conductive powder. In this connection, it is preferable that the paste-like electrolyte contains phosphoric acid. A vanadium redox battery (10) comprises at least a single cell structure wherein a positive electrode (1), a vanadium electrolyte (2) for positive electrodes obtained by oxidatively electrolyzing a vanadium electrolyte, a diaphragm (3), a vanadium electrolyte (4) for negative electrodes obtained by reductively electrolyzing a vanadium electrolyte, and a negative electrode (5) are arranged in this order. |
