The present invention relates to a device and a method to detect the failure of a light emitting diode (LED) lighting in a vehicle, capable of detecting the failure of a vehicle and then informing a driver of the failure even through a bulb or an LED of the vehicle is not in operation. According to the present invention, the device to detect the failure of an LED lighting in a vehicle comprises: a power part to supply power to a vehicle; a lighting part formed by the combination of lamps and operated by a voltage received from the power part; a voltage limiter to prevent the voltage of a battery of the power part from flowing to a device connected to a next terminal; a failure detection part receiving a reference voltage while distributing the received reference voltage and providing information on the failure of the lighting part in accordance with a level of an output voltage; an LED failure detection part connected to the failure detection part to provide one among a basic detection mode to maintain the distributed state and a high pressure detection mode to maintain a state where the voltage is not distributed by controlling the distribution of the reference voltage of the failure detection part; and a microprocessor to determine the failure of the lighting part in accordance with the voltage level provided to the basic detection mode and the high pressure detection mode from the failure detection part. Thus, the present invention informs the driver of the failure of the lamps by detecting the failure of the lamps regardless of the type of lamps comprising the bulb or the LED. |
