According to an embodiment, a light emitting element includes: a first electrode; a second conductive semiconductor layer on the first electrode; an active layer on the second conductive semiconductor layer; a first conductive semiconductor layer on the active layer; and a second electrode placed on the first conductive semiconductor layer. The second electrode includes: at least one electrode pad; an edge electrode pattern connected to the electrode pad, and placed on the edge of the upper surface of the first conductive semiconductor layer; and at least one branch electrode pattern extended from the electrode pad or edge electrode pattern to the inside of the upper surface of the first conductive semiconductor layer. Moreover, according to the embodiment, the lighting system includes a lighting unit including the light emitting element. According to the embodiment, the structure of the electrode pattern is optimized to improve the efficiency of light extraction by reducing the area of the electrode while improving the characteristics of current spreading. |
