<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition appropriate for tire treads which overcomes a problem of the combination of wear resistance and heat evolution resistance, and greatly enhances wear resistance without damaging rubber performances such as heat evolution resistance, and a pneumatic tire using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The rubber composition comprises at least a rubber component, sulfur, zinc oxide, a fatty acid, and/or a fatty acid zinc salt wherein an average melting point per weight of the fatty acid zinc salt contained in a vulcanized rubber when the rubber composition is vulcanized is not higher than 105°C.
