In a display apparatus and a driving method thereof, a detection unit determines whether a timing controller operates in a three-dimensional (3D) mode or a two-dimensional (2D) mode, and outputs any one from first and second mode signals according to the determination result. A compensation unit upgrades a gamma value of a 3D image when converting the 2D mode into the 3D mode in response to the first mode signal, and downgrades a gamma value upgraded by converting the 3D mode into the 2D mode in response to the second mode signal to a gamma value of a 2D image. Accordingly, the display apparatus can compensate a charging ratio of each pixel in the 3D mode, and also can prevent image quality from being decreased when converting a mode.
