Provided are: a foam, in which microfibrillated plant fibers are dispersed in a highly hydrophobic thermoplastic resin component or a rubber component uniformly, and which has excellent mechanical strength and fine foam diameters; and a method for producing a foam having excellent mechanical strength. The present invention relates to a foam comprising: (A) at least one component selected from the group consisting of a thermoplastic resin and a rubber; and (B) microfibrillated plant fibers each esterified with an alkyl or alkenyl succinate anhydride.
