<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for pleating a silk fiber product such as a silk fiber woven fabric, which achieves excellent retention of pleats without loss of the original characteristics of the silk fiber product, and to provide the pleated article thereof. <P>SOLUTION: Only a swelling agent is applied to a silk fiber product as an agent for fiber processing. Then, pleats are formed and thereafter fixed by wet heat treatment. Thereby, the pleated article excellent in retention of pleats can be provided without loss of the original characteristics of the silk fiber product. Since only the swelling agent is applied as an agent for fiber processing, and the pleating is performed through wet heat treatment, the processing step becomes very simple and easy to perform without a complicated processing step and is highly safe. Urea, a polyhydric alcohol having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, dimethylsulfoxide or the like may be used as the swelling agent.
