Chipboards made from wood shavings or flax shives and bound with urea, phenolic or melamine-urea glues are treated after moulding with water or steam until it has a moisture content of greater than 20%. (Moisture content = wt. of water/wt. of dry material x 100). The boards are then dried and trimmed. The boards are preferably dried to a moisture content below 20%. Additives for resistance to fire, termite and rot may be added with the water. The boards swell in the water and keep their increased dimensions when dried.
|
