A method and apparatus for managing history data of messages received from and transmitted to other users by a user of a mobile communication device is provided. Message history data is extracted from received and transmitted messages and stored such that a user of the mobile communication device may easily input a conditional request to the device and view message history data associated with a specific other user or message history data identified by conditional data input to the device.

a display; and a controller configured to:
cause displaying on the display a party identifier for each of a plurality of parties having a message history;cause displaying on the display a message history screen comprising a first portion and a second portion after user selection of the party identifier associated with a first party among the plurality of parties;cause displaying on the display the party identifier associated with the first party in the first portion of the display;cause displaying on the display in the second portion, for each of a plurality of messages received from the first party,
message content of an associated received message, andtime data associated with a time at which the associated received message is received at the apparatus; andcause displaying on the display in the second portion, for each of a plurality of messages transmitted to the first party,
message content of an associated transmitted message, andtime data associated with a time at which the associated transmitted message is transmitted from the apparatus.
