The resistance spot welding system effectively handles even the presence of electrode tip wear or disturbances and obtains good nuggets by being provided with: a means for calculating temporal changes in instantaneous heat generation amount, which is calculated from electrical characteristics between the electrodes during welding when suitable nuggets are formed by electrification using constant current control during a test welding, and storing same; a means for dividing the electrification pattern into multiple steps by external input after the test welding on the basis of the stored temporal changes in instantaneous heat generation amount and storing the temporal changes in instantaneous heat generation amount and the cumulative heat generation amount for each step as target values; and an adaptive control means for starting welding, during the actual welding, using the temporal change curve for the instantaneous heat generation amounts stored as target values as a reference and, when the temporal changes of the instantaneous heat generation amount deviate from the target temporal change curve at any step, for adjusting the welding current or voltage during welding so as to compensate for the difference within the electrification period for the rest of said step and generate instantaneous heat generation amounts and a cumulative heat generation amount so as to match the target cumulative heat generation amount for said step. |
