Disclosed is a resin composition for coating optical fibers or electric wires, which can be cured at lower temperatures, can be cured into a product having excellent heat resistance, and can achieve excellent flame retardancy without the need of using any flame retardant agent. More specifically disclosed is a resin composition for coating optical fibers or electric wires, which comprises (A) an aromatic polyamide resin containing a phenolic hydroxy group, (B) an epoxy resin, (C) a curing-accelerating agent and (D) an organic solvent, wherein the aromatic polyamide resin (A) contains, in the structure thereof, a repeating unit represented by formula (1) (wherein m and n independently represent the average repeating number of a repeating unit, wherein n and m fulfill the following requirements: n/(m+n) > 0.05 and 0 1 represents a bivalent aromatic group; Ar2 represents a bivalent aromatic group having a phenolic hydroxy group; and Ar3 represents a bivalent aromatic group). |
