摘要 <p>894,772. Coating webs. RIEGEL TEXTILE CORPORATION. April 24, 1958 [Sept. 19 1957 (2); Sept. 24, 1957 ; Oct. 23, 1957 ; Nov. 22, 1957], No. 13019/58. Class 140. Apparatus for applying deposits of a thixotropic composition in a spaced relief pattern on a longitudinallymoving web of textile material comprises applicator means to hold a supply of the composition and having outlets shaped and arranged to form the size and pattern of the deposits, the outlets being movable or shaped to open in the direction of movement of the web, means in and movable relatively to the applicator for effecting or controlling discharge of composition through the outlets to deposit on the web, the applicator means having a surface for face-contact with the web in advance of the point of discharge of composition through the outlets and means being provided for training the web to travel closely in contact with the said surface before it receives the deposits and to leave contact with the applicator means so that the composition retains in its deposited form the shape imparted by the outlets. As shown in Fig. 1, a fabric web W is trained from supply roll 12 to a vertically extending run and thence past adjustable tensioning bars 12 to applicator means 14 at which plastic composition is applied to the web and thereafter the web passes under heating means 16 to cure the plastic. The applicator means as shown in Fig. 6, wherein the web is shown as travelling from left to right, comprises a hollow screen roll 38 having apertures in its surface corresponding to a pattern of dots, a perforated pipe 34<SP>1</SP> for supplying plastic composition to the interior of the roll, and doctoring means 66 having wiper edge 68 disposed in contact with the interior surface of the screen roll throughout its length. The web W is pressed into contact with the outer surface of screen roll 38 by pressure roll 58 having a highly compressible resilient covering (e.g. sponge rubber) as indicated by hatching. As screen roll 38 rotates the plastic composition is doctored into its apertures by blade 68. Pressure roll 58 contacts screen roll 38 under a pressure sufficient to deform the resilient covering thereon into surface contact with roll 38 over an area extending in both directions from the point of doctoring whereby the screen roll apertures are adequately sealed by the web while the latter picks up the plastic composition therefrom. For production of fabric having deposits of the composition at only spaced areas the apparatus comprises a cylindrical applicator screen roll having a circumference greater than the lengthwise web dimension of such area and having at least a substantial part of the excess circumferential area of the screen formed imperforate, and a pressure roll normally running in contact with the screen but displaceably mounted so that the fabric web may be released for travel freely past the imperforate area of the screen at the lengths (of fabric) that are not to be treated with the deposit composition. For these purposes the apparatus may comprise a cam mounted on the screen roll for displacing the pressure-roll from contact therewith at the imperforate circumferential area and for thereupon stopping the rotation of the screen and electrical means, controlled by the travel of the web, for releasing the displaced pressure roll to its normal position and restarting the rotation of the screen. For production of fabric bearing continuous longitudinal stripes applicator means as shown in Figs. 15 and 16, 19 and 20 may be used. Apparatus as shown in Figs. 15 and 16 comprises a supply reservoir 310 arranged for disposition transversely over a travelling web W. The top of reservoir 310 is formed by a pair of feeding rolls 312 that are rotated in opposite directions to travel downwardly at their adjacent surfaces, and by a pair of doctor blades 314. The reservoir has a plurality of discharge nozzles 316 for discharge in spaced alignment with the travelling direction of web W. The composition is delivered above rolls 312 whose rotating motion carries it downwardly into the reservoir, building up a pressure therein, and is thence delivered in uniform streams from nozzles 316 on to web W to form stripes S. Apparatus as shown in Figs. 19 and 20 comprises a supply reservoir 350 to which the composition is fed and having the bottom slotted as at 352 adjacent the side edge thereof facing in the direction in which web W<SP>1</SP> is made to travel. At the inner face of the adjacent reservoir side a wiper blade 354 is installed for vertical adjustment to regulate the effective open end height of the slots. The composition, under head pressure of a sufficient depth in the reservoir, flows through the slots to form stripes S<SP>1</SP> on the web. Specification 894,771 is referred to.</p>
