Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for processing an image. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the apparatus for processing an image can generate a mask to prevent a virtual light source from being sampled in a specific area of a current mage frame based on virtual light source information of a previous image frame. The apparatus for processing an image can apply the mask to the current image frame to prevent the virtual light source from being sampled repetitiously between temporally continuous image frames. The apparatus for processing an image can reflect the virtual light source sampled in the previous image frame in the current image frame, and render the current image frame based on additionally sampled virtual light sources.
