The present invention relates to a cylinder liner (1) for a large size diesel motor, and the cylinder liner (1) comprising: a piston (12) arranged to move forwards and backwards inside the cylinder liner (1) along with a cylinder axial line (A) of the cylinder liner (1); an upper part of the piston (12) which forms a boundary of a combustion space with a running surface of the cylinder liner (1), and a cylinder cover arranged in the cylinder liner (1); and a lubricant device to introduce lubricant which forms a lubricant film (2) inside the cylinder liner in operation into the cylinder liner (1). According to the present invention, the cylinder liner (1) comprises at least one passage (13); an optical element (5) arranged in the passage (13); and the optical element (5) configured to make the lubricant film (2) be lighted by a lighting beam (3) as if it is an electronic copier. Moreover, the present invention relates to a method to determine characteristic values of the lubricant film (2).
