Disclosed are a heterogeneous memory system and a data communications method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the heterogeneous memory system comprises: a plurality of different types of memory cells; and a central processing unit (CPU) for communicating with each of the memory cells through a high-speed serial link method. The CPU includes a CPU protocol engine which generates command data to be transmitted to at least one memory cell of the memory cells, and packetizes the command data. Each of the memory cells includes: a memory protocol engine for analyzing the command data received from the CPU; and a memory controller for performing a corresponding operation according to the analysis results of the memory protocol engine.
