DATABASE COMPRESSION METHOD AND APPARATUS

The present invention discloses a database compression method and an apparatus thereof. A database management apparatus performs page division and record insertion before compression failure based on the number of records within a page and a size of an available space within a compressed page. The database compression method includes the following steps: comparing a size of an insertion record and an available space of a non-compressed page; comparing the number of records within the page and a threshold value; reconstituting and recompressing the page; performing the page division; and inserting an insertion record into the non-compressed page and the compressed page individually.
