Manufacture of cigars

Adhesive is applied to the underside of a cigar binder reinforcing strip S by an arm 208, Fig. 5, oscillated between the strip and a glue tank 212 by a peg 200 on an oscillatory knife 196 which severs the strip from the leading end of a web (see Group VI). During glueing, the strip S is held down on a suction head 14 which later deposits it inverted on a suction table T, Fig. 4, where paste X is applied by a roller 254 mounted on an arm 258 so as to be oscillated by cam means (not shown) between its pasting position and one in which it contacts a roller entraining paste from a pot.
