PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for casting a molten metal by an opened cast mold cavity by limiting a peripheral contour of the molten metal in the cavity when casting the molten metal into a final product state.SOLUTION: In this method, a starter block 60 is started to reciprocate along an axial line of a cavity 4 in a state that a start material body 70 is placed between the starter block 60 and a first cross section 72 of the cavity 4 in a lateral direction with respect to the axial line 12 of the cavity 4, the starter material body 70 reciprocates through a series of second cross sections 74 in tandem association with the starter block 60, a molten metal layer 76 adjoins the first cross section 72 of the cavity 4, and is laminated on the start material body 70, and the molten metal layer 76 maintains a prescribed external peripheral contour which is different from a contour of the cavity 4.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 18 |
