515,489. Stapling. POLLAK, J. E. (Brehmer Geb.). June 2, 1938, No. 16571. [Class 89 (iii)] In a multiple head wire stitching machine which simultaneously drives a number of staples into the material to be stitched, the drive is transmitted to the separate stitcher heads by means ensuring equality of operating pressure at each head. An electric motor drives a shaft 2 through reducing gearing and a one-revolution clutch controlled by a treadle. A crank on the shaft 2 is linked to a vertical slide 6 to which is pivoted a lever 9 channelled to engage the upper ends of a pair of plungers 13, actuating stitcher heads 11, 12, themselves adjustable towards or from each other in a dovetail guideway fixed in the machine. Each stitcher unit has separate supply of wire fed by rollers with co-operating cam surfaces. In a modification the floating lever may be substituted by hydraulic means. |
