A method of joining a carbon block 1 to the upper end surfaces of a continuous electrode 4 of an electrolytic furnace, the bottom face of the block being provided with grooves the width of which increases in upward direction, consists in applying to said grooved face a suitable carbonizable binder in such quantity that the grooves are filled and a continuous layer of binder is formed below and between the grooves and superimposing the block with the binder on the plane continuous upper end surface of the electrode 4, the binder being carbonized by heat supplied from the electrode. The grooves may extend in two intersecting directions.</p> |
