Provided is a socket for an artificial hip joint, whereby: after fixing the socket to the pelvis, a spherical head can be easily inserted into a recessed spherical surface part of the socket; after the insertion, the spherical head is prevented from easily falling off from the recessed spherical surface part of the socket; and, furthermore, correct positioning and alignment of a cup is easily assured so that the socket can be stably fixed. The recessed spherical surface part (cup) of the socket is in a semispherical shell shape and formed of one member and extends over the semispherical line so as to cover the spherical head beyond the diameter equatorial plane thereof, and cut-in grooves are formed in the edge side part of the opening. By changing the shape of the cut-in grooves, the opening rigidity of the edge side part of the opening can be adjusted so as to enable the insertion of the spherical head into the cup and prevent falling off thereof. After being inserted into the cup, the spherical head is slidably supported. On the outer peripheral surface of the edge side part of the opening in the semispherical shell-shaped cup, further, three legs extending radially are disposed at approximately equal intervals. These legs are bendable along a surface orthogonal to the opening surface of the cup and a screw hole or taper is formed at the tip of each leg. |
