According to an embodiment, a light emitting device comprises: a substrate; and a light emitting structure arranged below the substrate, wherein the light emitting structure comprises: a first-conductivity-type semiconductor layer; an active layer which is arranged below the first-conductivity-type semiconductor layer and emits light having a wavelength band equal to or less than 350 nm; a second-conductivity-type semiconductor layer arranged below the active layer; and a clad layer which is arranged below the active layer and has a second refractive index which is smaller than a first refractive index of the active layer.
