An electronic device and a voice recognition method thereof are disclosed. According to the present invention, the voice recognition method of the electronic device comprises the following steps of: receiving a user voice; extracting phonemic characteristics for voice recognition and voiceprint characteristics for speaker registration by analyzing the received user voice; and converting an execution mode into a voice recognition mode of the electronic device and registering the extracted voiceprint characteristics as voiceprint characteristics of the speaker uttering the user voice when the user voice, which is inputted in accordance with the extracted phonemic characteristics, corresponds to a registered trigger word.
