Thus, the apparatus and method can achieve rapid and accurate focusing even in a case where an amount of light is amplified due to low neighboring illuminance so that a large amount of noise occurs in an image signal or in a case where there is a spot light source so that a digital image signal processed by an imaging apparatus includes a plurality of pixels having a brightness value higher than a reference brightness value.
