<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain a paper powder and an external additive material from directly attaching to an outer peripheral surface of an intermediate transfer belt at a secondary transfer position for transferring a toner image to a recording material in a constitution comprising a blade for cleaning the intermediate transfer belt even when a lubricant is supplied to the intermediate transfer belt to suppress excess rubbing by the blade. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: an image carrier 11 for carrying a toner image; an elastic intermediate transfer belt 16 for having the toner image transferred on an outer peripheral surface thereof; a secondary transfer outer member 26 for transferring the toner image from the intermediate transfer belt 16 to a recording material P; a blade 27 for cleaning the intermediate transfer belt 16; supply means 25 for supplying a lubricant to the intermediate transfer belt 16; and supply means counter member 24 for stretching the intermediate transfer belt 16 at a counter position of the supply means 25 across the intermediate transfer belt 16.
