938,619. Metal working presses. BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Dec. 7, 1961 [Dec. 14, 1960], No. 42987/60. Class 83 (4). Apparatus for changing the tools in a forging press comprises a carrier 6, 6a for two sets of tools and which is movable to position any selected tool or tools for insertion into the press. The apparatus is carried on a chassis 2 movable on wheels 3 along rails 4 and connectable to the press by a catch 15. An inner rotary turret 6 carries tools 8 mounted in slotted guides 7 and an outer rotary turret 6a carrier tools 8a mounted in slotted guides 7a. The two turrets are rotatable, preferably in opposite directions, through a ratchet mechanism 11 by a reversible electric motor 10. Individual driving means may be provided for the two turrets. An hydraulically operated detent 12 locks the turrets in a selected position. The tools are pushed from their turrets through openings 9, 9a, and over a bridge 14 into the press, by hydraulic or pneumatic rams 13, or alternatively by lead-screws, which have quickconnection couplings for engaging and releasing the tools. These rams also withdraw the tools from the press. Detents are provided for locking the tools in the press. In an alternative embodiment the tools are mounted on a beam slidable into the press. |
