941,022. Roundabouts. W. E. BUTLIN. (B. Schiffe). July 4, 1960 [Aug. 18, 1959], No. 28246/59. Heading A6M. Passenger carrying means is mounted away from the axis of rotation of a cross-arm rotatably mounted adjacent one end of a support arm whose other end is rotatably mounted, both arms being rotated through gearing by an input gear. As shown, base 11 supports an assembly 13 carrying a tubular pillar 14 with a base plate 15 integral with a gear ring 16 driven by pinion 21. Three arms 26 secured to a mounting 25 on pillar 14 each comprise a braced framework with end plates 31. A pyramidal framework 32 on mounting 25 carries a triangular plate 36 connected by the rods 37, each including a trim buckle to plates 31. Mounted in a bearing 43 in plate 31 is a rigid pole 42 carrying at its lower end a plate 44 from which arms 47 consisting of braced frameworks extend slightly upwardly. Each arm 47 carries at its end a car 52 which is connected by the rods 57 to the adjacent plate 31. Each plate 46 has an integral gear driven by a bevel gear 61. Brakes are provided for locking arms 26, 41 against movement. |
