A control unit (4) deactivates and/or activates sending of the AIS radio signals of second AIS radio signal type by a transmission unit (2) on the basis of ship position. The control unit deactivates and/or activates the sending of the AIS radio signals of the second AIS radio signal type by the AIS radio transmission unit on the basis of number of adjacent ships. An independent claim is also included for a method for sending and receiving of AIS radio signals containing ship data by AIS ship's transceiver.
