<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct a color registration error caused by a temperature difference between writing units exposing photoreceptors in a tandem type color image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus performs the steps of: for a writing unit exposing K and C photoreceptors and a writing unit exposing M and Y photoreceptors, calculating temperature differences Δf_kc and Δf_my from the previous execution of registration error correction amount calculation processing (step S21); when an absolute value of the difference between Δf_kc and Δf_my exceeds a predetermined amount F (step S22: YES), determining whether to perform color printing or monochrome printing next (step S23); and when it is determined to perform color printing (step S23: Color), executing the registration error correction amount calculation processing (step S24).
