<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus achieving miniaturization of the apparatus and high productivity without breakage even when a cutting means and a carriage having an interference region due to space-saving arrangement collide with each other, and to provide a recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: In this image forming apparatus comprising a rolled sheet 16, a carriage 11 mounting a recording head, and a cutting means 12, the image forming apparatus further comprises: a detection means for detecting foreign matter in a carriage movement area by contact; and a control means for controlling operations of the carriage 11 and the cutting means 12, and includes an interference region 23 where a carriage movement area 21 and a cutting means moving region 22 overlap with each other. In an initial operation after a power supply is turned on, the control means causes a carriage initial operation for initializing a position of the carriage 11 and a cutting means initial operation for initializing a position of the cutting means 12 to be exclusively performed.
