A display device comprising: a display panel which displays a still image and a motion picture; a signal controller which controls signals to drive the display panel; and a graphics processing unit which transmits input image data to the signal controller, wherein the signal controller comprises: a frame memory which stores compressed image data generated by compressing the input image data from the graphic processing unit; anda mixer which mixes compression recovered image data generated by recovering the compressed image data and the input image data of a frame from the graphic processing unit and generates mixed image data to be output to the display panel during the frame, wherein the signal controller outputs the input image data to the display panel in a motion picture display period during which the motion picture is displayed, the signal controller outputs stored compression recovered image data to the display panel in a still image display period during which the still image is displayed, and the signal controller outputs the mixed image data to the display panel in a first image conversion period during which the motion picture is converted into the still image, and a second image conversion period during which the still image is converted into the motion picture.
