921,871. Forage harvesters; cutting grass. PATENT CONCERN N.V. July 7, 1959 [July 17, 1958], No. 23329/59. Classes 6(2) and 6(3). [Also in Group XXX]. A forage-harvester comprises a frame 4 carrying a crop-cutting mechanism 2 and a delivery shoot 3 directly above it to receive the cut crop, the cutting mechanism being floatingly arranged relatively to the frame. In one form shown, Fig. 2, the cutter comprises a rotary cutter-cylinder and ledger-blade 23, the cylinder consisting of a cage of bars 16 to which are attached short blades 17 each blade having radial and tangential portions 18, 19. The cutter is suspended by a spring 32 from a bellcrank 33 pivoted on the frame and adjustable by a screw 35. The shoot has a pivoted flap 38 at its top end operable by a cable 39 and handle 40 to alter the direction of discharge. A fan B may be optionally provided to assist discharge and a hopper-like mouth M may then also be provided at the base of the shoot so that the device may be used as a pneumatic elevator for previously-cut crop. In a second form, Fig. 8, the cutting mechanism 57 comprises pivoted knives 60 but no ledger blade, the fan 72 and mouth 82 being integral with the shoot 70 of which the upper part includes relatively rotatable sections 94, 95 in addition to the pivoted flap 84. Specifications 921,872, 921,873 and 921,874 are referred to. |
